Dog Licenses

Annual licenses are valid from January 1 to December 31.

Pennsylvania law requires all dogs three (3) months of age or older to be licensed by January 1st of each year. A dog owner with an unlicensed pet is subject to a summary offense charge with a MAXIMUM FINE of $500

**For order to be processed a completed PIV from a licensed vet is needed!!**

Issued only by the County Treasurer’s Office & verified Agents. To obtain Lifetime License the dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Residents must be 65 to purchase a Senior Citizen License or a Senior Citizen Lifetime License unless they have another qualifying circumstances listed on Affidavit for Dog License.

Applying for a License

Annual Licenses can be applied for in 3 ways: in person, by mail, or by applying online.

To apply in person, you can do so by coming to the office, or by going to one of the local agents throughout the County that also sells the licenses. View the listing of dog agents.

If you don't have computer access and/or a printer, call the office and we'll be happy to mail one to you. You can mail the application with a check or money order to the Treasurer's Office. Checks can be made payable to "York County Treasurer".

License paid by check or money order will be held for 15 days to ensure proper clearing of funds. Once 15 day hold is up we will place tags in mail.

You can also apply online (for both annual and lifetime licenses). There will be an additional fee charged by our credit card processor.

Dog License Transfers

Dog Licenses can be transferred between counties and to new dog owners. The cost to transfer a license is $1 for each dog license being transferred. When transferring to another County, a fee of $1 will be charged by the new County Treasurer to issue a dog license tag in the new County. Please make check payable to the new County Treasurer to complete the transfer request. An application to transfer shall be submitted with a bill of sale or an affidavit from the previous owner that ownership of the dog is to be transferred to the new owner. Current York County license holders can transfer a license by mailing the completed application form along with the fee to the York County Treasurer's Office located at 28 E Market Street, Room 126, York, PA 17401.

Replacement Tags

Annual and Lifetime duplicate tags for damaged or misplaced tags are available in our office for $1.70. To get a replacement tag, please mail a check or money order along with a note that has your dog's license number to:
